University of Illinois Team Places 2nd in National Rube Goldberg Machine Contest! See here for more!
The University of Illinois Rube Goldberg Team was started during Fall
2008 to contest in collegiate Rube Goldberg Machine contests. Rube
Goldberg was a cartoonist best known for his series of popular drawings
depicting complex devices that perform simple tasks in indirect,
convoluted ways. Rube Goldberg Machine Contests serve as a
way of challenging traditional solutions to problems and are great ways
to spur innovative creativity in engineers and imaginative thinkers.

2010
Challenge:
Dispense an appropriate amount of hand
sanitizer in someone's hand.
2009 Challenge:
Replace an incandescent light
bulb with a more energy efficient light emitting design.
Our 2009 Machine's theme was based off of the board game Clue
and named "The Scene of the Crime". It included each of the
different rooms of the Clue Mansion and included nearly all of the
characters - each of which was "killed" with a different weapon from
the game. In the end, Professor Plum was revealed to be the
murderer and was jailed! You can see a video of The Scene of the Crime on our Videos page.
See the Official Rube Goldberg site for official rules and regulations.
